Space Shuttles Need Love Too

May 10, 2009

On an entirely different toppic, I was thrilled to learn that NASA’s space shuttle Atlantis has a self destruct sequence, and that NASA is having fun practicing for space disasters check it out.

In case of an emergency, two space shuttle will hold hands, and when the emergency has subsided on shuttle will leave, waving goodbye,  and then the other shuttle would kiss itself good by and self destruct.  I think that two shuttles holding hands is an absolutely adorable idea.

Congratulations Ann Margolin

I want to say congratulations to my mother, Ann Margolin, for winning her race for Dallas City Council District 13 against Brint Ryan by a healthy margin of nearly 14%.  The race was intense and she overcame the bottomless coffers on the Ryan campaign.  See the Article in today’s Dallas Morning News (You can see me in the background of the picture too), listen to her on KERA, and see the results of the election here.

I am always excited when I see something I worked on receive recognition.  I am also always happy when something I have used is part of a world’s first.  Today MIT’s posted an article entitled How to make (robot) friends and influence people.  The article is about the Ibn Sina robot, which I helped build at Hanson Robotics, and how it is the first robot with its own facebook profile and can gather information from its own social network.

A Candidate’s Son

May 3, 2009

My Mother, Ann Margolin, is running for the Dallas City Council, District 13 seat, this race is historic in the amount of money that has been spent, mostly by her opponent who has bottomless pockets and a willingness to spend well over a million dollars.  He has been running slander adds about my mother on television and radio.  I must say that this is a strange experience for a person, to be listening to the radio, or watching television and hearing somebody trash talk your mother.  In addition to that I have a habit of reading the various articles in the Dallas papers and magazines and after the article I read the comments on the websites, it is strange to see people truly saying angry, vile things about this person who is my mother, and based on many of their talking points I truly believe they work on her opponents campaign.  Additionally the man running against my mother has decided to sue her because he is a big baby and although he has been slinging mud for weeks, the second she reveals things about him he goes crying to a lawyer.  Being the progeny of a political candidate is a very strange experience, one that I would think could be difficult for people with thinner skins than I.  Ultimately I understand and realize that to the general public, my mother is no longer a real person but this figure up which people can focus their frustrations, and emotional reactions based on little knowledge of the real person.

Whipped cream and Rootbeer

April 20, 2009

Call me spoiled but it’s rare that I find an ice cream shop that makes whipped cream with a whisk.  Aerosol whipped cream is fine and dandy but it’s essentially the parsley of dessert — more there for appearances than for flavor. Hand-whipped cream is almost like mousse, thick and textured enough to smother marmots, a perfect velvety transition from the ice cream as long as you don’t think about the dead marmots too much.

My problem with root beer is that not too long ago somebody informed me that it tastes like tooth paste.  I wish they had not.  I had managed to survive some twenty three years having never made that connection.  Once I was so graciously enlightened, BAM, there it was.  I still like rootbeer but now everytime I indulge in one, there is that brief pause andmoment of recognition before I can enjoy it.

The Dallas City Council Race

April 17, 2009

If you live in Dallas, especially District 13, vote for Ann Margolin for Dallas City Council.

I know that I may seem biased because she is my mother, but even if she were not, she is extremely well qualified and experienced and because of my relationship with her, I know that she really does care about Dallas.
